Guest Artist Recital – Jānis Maļeckis

Jānis Maļeckis was born in 1957 in Jurmala and studied piano performance at Emīls Dārziņš Secondary Music School. In 1981 he graduated Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. In 1985 he completed post-graduate studies at Chamber Music Faculty of Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatoire and in 1994 graduated the Art Academy of Latvia.
Currently Jānis Maļeckis is a professor of JVLMA Chamber Ensemble and Accompaniment Department and teaches at Jūrmala Secondary Music School. He has given masterclasses in Germany, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Estonia and has participated in various festivals in Finland, Estonia, France, and USA. Students of J. Maļeckis have achieved considerable successes in many international competitions.
Jānis Maļeckis combines his exceptional teaching skills with an active international performance career. Apart from his successes in music he is also a recognized painter and has had exhibitions of his works held in Latvia, Belgium, Norway, and USA. He was the recipient of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and Hansabanka Annual Award 2006.
