The Inheritance, Part 2
May 16 @ 7:00 pm
$25Voices in Alliance is excited to announce the Omaha premiere of “The Inheritance, Part 2,” the poetic and powerful sequel to “The Inheritance, Part 1” written by the acclaimed playwright Matthew López. Directed by the award-winning Randall Stevens, the play continues the gripping narrative established by its predecessor, exploring the themes of legacy and the complex nature of human relationships. This eagerly anticipated production will be staged at the Bancroft Street Market, running from May 10 through May 19.
“The Inheritance, Part 2” resumes the intriguing tale where Part 1 left off, centering on the intertwined stories of Eric, Toby, Henry, Leo, and their companions in a hauntingly beautiful exploration of self-discovery, self-deception, and self-destruction.
Randall Stevens, who is also the theatre’s Founder and Producing Artistic Director, expressed his excitement about bringing this seminal work to Omaha audiences, stating, “The cast, crew, and I are thrilled to continue this story on stage. Matthew López’s two-part piece is among the most beautiful and powerful that I’ve had the honor to direct.”
While the play is indeed a sequel to the production that Voices in Alliance presented last November, Stevens mentions that there is no need to have attended to understand and fully engage with the piece. “We offer a comprehensive overview of Part 1 on our website, and López excels in captivating both returning theatergoers and newcomers alike. His storytelling is so seamless that no one will miss a beat.”
“The Inheritance, Part 2” marks the fourth production by the theatre as it begins its second season in Omaha. Upcoming productions include “Plot Points in Our Sexual Development” by Miranda Rose Hall from August 15-25 and “Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties” by Jen Silverman from November 7-17.
“I founded Voices in Alliance because I felt there was a need in our community that was not being met,” Stevens says. “This play speaks to our mission and has really resonated with our patrons. We are thrilled to bring this Tony Award-winning epic piece of queer theatre to Omaha.”
Tickets are $25 and available for purchase at VIAOmaha.org. “The Inheritance, Part 2” contains explicit sexual language and discussion of drug use and is only recommended for audiences over the age of 18.
