Opera Omaha 2026–2027 Season

February 3rd, 2026

Opera Omaha has officially announced its 2026–2027 season, and it’s one of the company’s most expansive and community-focused lineups yet. From free outdoor performances to world premieres and rarely heard masterpieces, the season is designed to welcome newcomers while offering longtime opera lovers something truly special.

The season opens with Opera Outdoors, a beloved tradition that brings opera’s greatest hits to the park in a free, family-friendly setting. It’s an open invitation for the entire community to experience opera together, whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth.

Later in the fall, Opera Omaha presents a concert featuring acclaimed baritone Will Liverman, a multi-year Grammy nominee known not only for his powerful voice, but also for his work as a pianist and composer. The performance at Slowdown will include both opera favorites and Liverman’s original music.

In November, the company returns to one of opera’s most cherished works, Puccini’s La Bohème. Set in Paris and filled with lush melodies, humor, love, and heartbreak, the opera begins on Christmas Eve, making it a fitting way to usher audiences into the holiday season.

January brings something entirely new with The Pigeon Keeper, a newly commissioned opera created in collaboration with companies across the U.S. and Canada. Part of Opera Omaha’s family opera series, the production will be staged at The Rose Theater and features Omaha children performing in the chorus and even singing the leading role.

In the spring, Opera Omaha takes on Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos for the first time. Despite its imposing title, the opera is a lighthearted comedy that blends serious opera with commedia dell’arte, offering a playful behind-the-scenes look at what happens when two very different performance worlds collide.

The season concludes with the return of The English Concert, performing Handel’s rarely heard opera ** Alessandro**. Written in 1727 and performed in the United States only once since then, the work tells the story of Alexander the Great and promises a powerful and rewarding finale to the season.
