Benson Theatre Cultivating Arts and Education
October 29th, 2024
In its third year, the Benson Theatre continues to bring fresh ideas to life, enriching the community with a mission grounded in the arts and education. Program Director Jason Levering, who has been an influential figure in Omaha’s arts scene since the late 1990s, is driving these efforts, focusing on making the theater a space where creativity thrives.
Levering, whose background spans theater and film, was inspired by Benson Theatre founder Amy Ryan’s vision of revitalizing the space. Since joining the theater, he has organized major events that have fostered a welcoming environment for all. “This role goes beyond organizing programs. It’s about building a community where people feel inspired and engaged,” Levering said. By collaborating with local organizations and engaging directly with the community, he’s working to ensure the theater serves as a hub for culture and creativity.
One of Levering’s ongoing challenges is shifting public perception of the theater as more than a rental venue. In 2024, he plans to expand the theater’s reach with new initiatives aimed at strengthening its community ties and broadening its impact.
In the meantime, Benson Theatre offers an array of events for early November and a lineup of December favorites. More information on upcoming programming can be found at: Benson Theater
