The Omaha Community Playhouse Presents 1960s Inspired Musical HAIR
February 23rd, 2026
The Omaha Community Playhouse is presenting its upcoming show, HAIR. HAIR is a 1960s musical based on the protest movements surrounding a variety of issues facing America at the time. It is a show about counterculture and the importance of these protest movements. Brandon Box-Higdem, the director of HAIR at the Omaha Community Playhouse, says, “They’re going to be moved, you know, because there are some really strong emotional moments.”
During its initial debut in the 1960s, the musical was groundbreaking in pushing the boundaries of live theatre. The show was one of the first to feature live nudity in a theatre setting. The Omaha Community Playhouse aims to honor that legacy through its exploration of the deeper themes and topics woven into the production. The show connects the ideas and protests of the 1960s to modern-day protests and issues. Box-Higdem states, “I realized we are protesting some of the same things that they were protesting in that time period. It’s just a different name.”
This production is suited for mature audiences, as there are moments of live nudity, conversations about drug use, and other heavier topics. “And my hope is that audience members will lean into this aspect of holding a mirror up to our faces and asking, why are we still protesting this stuff if it is liberty and justice for all?” says Box-Higdem.
The Omaha Community Playhouse will be showing HAIR until March 15. More information can be found at Omahaplayhouse.com.
