Unshakeable: An Exploration of Memory by Opera Omaha
June 2nd, 2026
Performing at the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center is Opera Omaha’s new production, Unshakeable. Unshakeable is a 40-minute opera that tells the story of two former lovers living through a pandemic of memory loss. Through the use of Shakespeare to bridge the gap created by amnesia, the two lovers, Wyatt (Joseph Lim) and Meridian (Teresa Castillo), are able to find each other—and themselves—once again. Teresa Castillo, who plays Meridian in the production, says, “It’s kind of like The Notebook, but with Shakespeare.”
This two-character show is unique in its exploration of how people navigate a world affected by memory loss. In Unshakeable, that journey unfolds through the words of Shakespeare. In their previous lives, Wyatt and Meridian were part of a Shakespeare production, and through their shared love of the craft and their past experiences, they are able to rediscover who they truly are. Castillo says, “I mean, we come back to Romeo and Juliet a lot. We also go back to A Midsummer Night’s Dream quite a bit.”
The opera is also packed with movement and musical numbers. “The meter constantly changes the rhythm. There’s a lot of ebb and flow,” Castillo says. “It really reminds me of Monteverdi in a lot of ways.” This show is one of perseverance and love, offering comfort in the idea that even in times of struggle, there is still a light at the end of the tunnel.
Opera Omaha will present Unshakeable from June 5 through June 7. More information can be found at operaomaha.org.
