Mary Poppins Brings Magic to the Omaha Playhouse Stage
May 27th, 2026
From patterned parasols to magical melodies, Mary Poppins, performing at the Omaha Community Playhouse, transports audiences into the world of this no-nonsense nanny. Taking inspiration from the films, this show is colorful, clever, and more than just a spoonful of sugar. From the performance by Lauren Krupski as Mary Poppins to the mystical stage effects, this production is a fitting way to end the Playhouse’s 101st season.
Director of Mary Poppins, Brandon Box-Higdem, says, “So we lean into all of this magic and the electricity of all of that.”
With a wide range of auditioners turning out for this production, Box-Higdem has double-cast the two children’s roles to provide more opportunities for youth performers in the area. “It’s so joyful. It is so much fun. The ensemble is just so excited, and they’re right on top of things,” says Box-Higdem. “It was very clear that they are doing their homework. They are rockin’ and rolling.”
The Playhouse also worked in collaboration with student arts groups on its lobby display, featuring numerous vibrant umbrellas, each handcrafted and with a story to tell. Box-Higdem says, “We reached out to South High School Art Club and Bluestem Middle School and asked if they would help us with an umbrella project.” Including nearly 60 umbrellas divided among students from the two organizations, the saturated colors enhance the joy of the story and invites audiences into the magic of the world.
The Omaha Community Playhouse production of Mary Poppins will run through June 28. More information can be found at omahaplayhouse.com.
